SONY WORKS WITH DVD/CD-R, BUT ITS POSIBLE FOR THE PS2 TO READ DVD/CD+R.
MY ADVISE FOR YOU IS TO USE DVD/CD-R, I USE THIS DVD/CDS AND THEY WORK
OK. IF YOU USE VERBATIM, YOU WILL NEVER HAVE ANY PROBLEM. I HOPE MY
ADVISE HELPS YOU. AND ALSO HOPE MY ENGLISH ISN'T VERY BAD.

Yes, PS2 is able to read
DVD+R. I've got near one hundred DVD+R games and near zero problems
I've got V4 & V7 PS2. Both of them can read these games.
BTW, please forget about the Slide Card and buy a Flip Top Case. It's
the easier and no damage way to play "backups"
. You won't deceive
it.
